Update: Pissed.

I don't typically rant, and rarely get angry... but I'm pissed.

I've been working a lot the last month or so, and haven't seen my daughter hardly at all, so when the wife went out with her sister and took the baby, I had the afternoon free with Aleyah. We climbed in the Seven, and went to a local lake to go fishing.

Whenever I take her with me, I always have her wear her neon-yellow motorcycle helmet I bought her, just for safety, as her side doesn't have an aeroscreen. So, when we got to the lake, we walked down to the tailwaters, near the dam at one end, and left the helmet in her seat, so I wouldn't have to put it down in the mud. As you can see, she caught a few small bluegill.

Eventually, it was starting to look like it was going to rain, so we packed up, and headed back to the Seven. I went to go put her helmet on... no helmet.

Some douchebag stole my 5-year-old's helmet. What kind of asshole does that? It's a good thing I didn't see who it was... things would have gotten interesting. She's been crying since; I'm about to load her into the Subie and head back out there. There was a kid riding around on a bike, I'd like to have a few words with him.

I'm pissed.

Update: After posting this, we climbed into the Subie and headed back to the spillway. I didn't realize that there was a trailer park almost directly across from where we were... I probably wouldn't have left the helmet nor the steering wheel on the car if I had seen that. Bug and I were going to drive through the park and see if anything looked suspicious, but just as we were going to pull in, I saw a police car coming down the road. I quickly parked, got out, and waved him down. It was a younger local officer, and when I explained what happened, described the helmet, (hot neon yellow is hard to miss), and the kid, he said he might know where it went. Apparently there's a trouble kid in that trailer park, who is known for trouble around the spillway.

He told me to stick around for a minute, and he drove in there. He came back, said he wasn't home, but he was going to look for the kid and they have my number. As we left, I saw him getting out of his car down by the spillway, so I'm hoping he finds the punk.

I know my little Bug would be very happy to see her helmet back. If it was one of my helmets, I'd be pretty pissed, but nothing like this. I'd have bought her another one today, but that's just not financially feasible. That, and she was rather fond of that one.

Ontop of it all, I'll give the cops a few days to track the kid down. If that doesn't pan out, I'll take you up on that offer whenever you get that. I know she probably wouldn't cry about pink.

I agree with Automatch... that's what makes me proud to be part of Oppo.

I'm getting another scooter soon and it comes with 2 helmets. One is pink. I will not be needing that, so let me know if you want it.

people are such assholes. You have every right to be pissed. Try to avoid physical conflict though. Call the cops instead.

Who does that? Some pathetic spoiled kid, I can't think of anything else. I was a pretty bad kid when I was young, but this just draws the line.

New Plan: Immediately take your beautiful daughter to the Store-Oh-The-Helmet and get her some new headgear and a matching T-shirt as well as a new pair of sneakers. On the way home, stop at the malt shop and split a 2-scoop hot fudge sundae. Now share and enjoy.

I would do that... I drove past the Yamaha shop where we bought it (on sale at the time), but they are closed for the weekend. Besides, I'm broke. I couldn't afford another 100+ dollar helmet right now. We did stop and get sundaes at McD's and a Happy Meal for her.

Wasn't about to physically deal with anyone, was just going to try to figure out where that kid on the bike came from. Didn't realize there is a trailer park right next to the lake... that explains a lot.

Stealing safety equipment from children?! That's messed up. Sounds like that police officer is really going to follow up, I hope he finds it for you. I always enjoyed spending quality time with my dad, and it looks like your daughter does too. Looks like some of the fine folks of Oppo are helping you out, that's what Oppo is all about. Good luck!
